t-minus 14 days (and counting)
Two weeks from today I'll be on my way to la jolie France.
Everyone keeps asking me if I'm excited, which I definitely am, but I'm also freaking out. A lot. First of all, a taxi from the airport apparently costs 100 euro. 100 EURO?! Do I look like I'm made of money? Do I even know how to find a taxi and tell the driver where I'm supposed to go? Is my French good enough? What do I pack? What if my host family hates me? Is my laptop going to explode if I plug it into an outlet without the right transformer? Are all of the meals going to solely consist of mushrooms and eggs? I'm not a big fan of mushrooms and eggs. Or snails. I'll probably starve.
My concerns are clearly very valid.
...
I got the final mailing from IES today, which included information from the consulate about traveling in France. Holy shit. I knew the pickpocketing was bad in Paris, but I didn't know how bad. They steal things through open car windows, break into hotel rooms, and grab purses before jumping off of metros. The goal is to blend in. We'll see how that goes.
I really am excited, though. All previous adventures have only led to good things, so I have high expectations for this experience. Calming down is key.
